The inauguration ceremony of Madinat Salman: New Town Milestone for Bahrain

Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa opened Bahrain’s biggest housing town yesterday, 15th May 2018 through an official inauguration ceremony that took place at the location.

Present were His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

The Northern Town will be named Salman Town (Madinat Salman) in tribute to the Crown Prince for his outstanding contribution to the national’s progress, His Majesty said.
The Northern Town, which is being built on reclaimed land off the northern coast, will rank among the cities of the future, he said.

The King voiced pride at Bahrain’s successive achievements and thanked all those who provided support in meeting aspirations of the kingdom’s loyal people.

His Majesty was saluted by school students on his arrival at the site of the ceremony. He was also welcomed by Housing Minister H.E Eng. Bassem bin Yaquob Al Hamer and Northern Governor Ali Al Asfoor.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he expressed delight at opening the landmark town. “By good fortune, the opening of this modern milestone comes as part of the massive urban and civilization stride that meets the needs of all region and consolidates the standing of each governorate to play its role in supporting the national economy of Bahrain to be a model of modernism and development,” the King said.

He paid tribute to the loyal people of Bahrain for their contribution to the nation’s development.

His majesty said the new town will rank among the cities of the future. At the end of the ceremony he handed over the first two units to eligible recipients.

The Housing Minister thanked His Majesty for patronizing the inauguration ceremony and cited the royal order to build 40,000 units and underlined various stages in the construction of the model town, ever since the Crown Prince laid the foundation stone, including reclamation, engineering blueprints in co-ordination with the French Urban Authority. He revealed that work on more than 3,000 units has already been completed, pointing out that the Town would eventually have the capacity to accommodate more than 90,000 people. The town features all amenities including health, educational, religious and sport and transportation facilities and services, in addition to a modern roads network and well-developed infrastructure.

A documentary film showcasing the construction of the multi-phased town was shown, highlighting co-operation between all parties and its amenities and facilities – including beaches, mosques, schools, universities and nurseries in addition to hospital, health centre and clinics and sport city which includes a football stadium.

A look back to 2012
Public-private sector partnership to yield 4,100 homes

The Ministry of Housing Bahrain signed its first Public Private Partnership (PPP) with real estate and infrastructure development company Naseej on the 2nd of January, 2012. The five-year PPP agreement encompassed building 3,110 social housing units and more than 1,000 affordable homes across two different locations: North Bahrain New Town, and Al Lawzi.

The multi-million dinar deal, which is the first of its kind in the Gulf, aimed to provide social and affordable housing to Bahraini citizens within three-five years and help reduce the government's waiting list. This project is the biggest undertaken by the ministry thus far, and the ministry will continue cooperating with the private sector in order to eliminate the housing waiting list.

At this present time, Naseej is pleased to announce the timely completion of the social housing component of Bahrain’s pioneering social and affordable housing public-private-partnership (PPP) project with the Ministry of Housing. All social housing units were handed over to the Ministry of Housing within the stipulated time frame.

Naseej congratulates the Government of Bahrain on the success of this groundbreaking initiative, which has validated the PPP model as the most effective way of addressing the Kingdom’s housing shortage.
